The Beatitudes
The golden days of autumn are slipping by too fast or too slowly depending perhaps on your age or preference of activities. However you view the passage of time, you must admit that we have been and are blessed by the beauty around us and the bounty of the harvest. What a blessing from God!
Jesus teaches in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-12) that we are also blessed as we develop and exhibit certain attitudes in our Christian walk.. In The Beatitudes: Developing Spiritual Character, John Stott writes that the Sermon on the Mount “is Jesus’ own description of what he wanted his followers to be and to do. Here is a Christian value-system, ethical standard, religious devotion, attitude toward money, ambition, lifestyle and network of relationships–all of which are totally at variance with the non-Christian world.”
This year staff and students at TBCS are studying the Beatitudes in our monthly assemblies and staff devotions. You are invited to join our assemblies (dates announced in the Journal) as students and adults explore the meanings and implications for life these words of Christ have for us.
