The Order of the Towel
Just what is The Order of the Towel? Well, Jesus belonged to it. He told his disciples they, too, should belong to it. Paul writes about it to the Romans and Philippians. Remember the story? It goes like this . . . Jesus and his disciples were at the evening meal. They had no servant to attend to the washing of their dusty feet, and not one of the disciples had condescended to do this task-a task usually assigned to the lowliest servant in the household. So Jesus, Lord and Master, the King of Kings, took off his outer garments, wrapped a towel around his waist, took a basin of water and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel. When he had finished, he said, "Now that I . . .have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet." John 13:14. The message is pretty clear - serve.
Our theme this year is "SAVED to SERVE". We should have the same attitude as Jesus toward serving one another. He saved us, called us, and now sends us-not to wash his feet, but one another's feet. We show our love for him by loving one another as he loves us. Thorough the year we will be looking at Philippians 2:1-5 and Romans 12:6-18 and focussing on the various ways we as a school community and as individuals can belong to The Order Of the Towel.
